This is a good story. Since Call of Cthulhu, the found footage/documentary—perhaps a "found letter"?—style has brought a whole new dimension to these kinds of cosmic horror narratives.
This story is good, but it feels like it's part of a larger whole, not one that should stand alone. I don't know if the analogy is accurate, but technically, it could be a collection of stories à la World War Z, with the horror escalating through different perspectives... I hope we get to read that whole thing.
You're right, this could definitely be part of a larger anthology. And what a fantastic collection to compare it to. World War Z is an absolute masterpiece, and I hope one day it's given the proper adaptive treatment.
To think all that could be crammed into a two hour movie was insane. It should've been a twelve part TV series which told all the best stories from the book.
You are very welcome. Actually, I really think that the special unit story does have an underlying truth in there. Troops have certainly been used in the past for nasty, secret experiments.
I really look forward to reading the last part of 'O Death', too. 😀❤️
That is very true actually. There are those hilarious LSD tests from the fifties or sixties, where hardened soldiers are climbing trees and giggling. Then there's the nuclear tests, or the chemical warfare tests at Porton Down, the effects of which aren't nearly as amusing.
Thanks again, Athena, and enjoy that final part of O Death!
I think you're exactly right. It does feel like the fractured part of a larger piece. It was written along with The Orphan, so you could maybe call that story the sibling of this one.
As ever, thanks for reading, Ugur. Your thoughts and feedback mean a lot to me.

Wow, Sam. What a story. Sure to be truth in there, somewhere.😀
I hope there's no truth in there! Haha.
But thank you for the paid sub, I just got the notification and you've absolutely made my week!
Enjoy the final part of O Death, as well as all the other paywalled stuff. From the very bottom of my heart, thank you.
